The holiday countdown has officially begun, and our Christmas trees are up! The festivities began back in November, when our Kingsmead girls showed just how far dedication and passion can take you – from swimming galas, to soccer games, to karate.

We wished our Hindu families a Diwali filled with light, and our matrics wrote their final exams. Our exceptional staff members celebrated their own achievements, too. We are so proud of our Kingsmead community.

You can read all about our November 2023 highlights below.

Amy achieved wonderful results at the recent Wanderers Gymnastics Competition. She did her grading and passed all three badge levels within a single year – an accomplishment that typically takes a year for each level. We’re thrilled to celebrate her. Well done Amy!

Our Grade 1-3 students had so much fun at their swimming gala, where they showcased their swimming talents in relay races and water games. It was an absolute blast seeing these young swimmers dive in and have a good time. Well done girls.

Soccer season is officially here and our Kingsmead College players kicked it off with a bang! Our students faced Brescia House in their highly anticipated first soccer fixture, and boy, did they show us what courage is all about. Our players displayed commitment and love for the beautiful game. Here’s to a season filled with teamwork and passion!

Well done to Sophie Cornish-Bowden for placing third in the 25m breaststroke and backstroke at the Mandeville Junior League gala held at St Andrews. It was a very competitive event with multiple heats and some very strong swimming on show. Sophie was a few split seconds off first in both races and was close to the medals in butterfly as well.

November marked the culmination of an incredible journey for our Grade 12 students as they wrote their final matric exams! In true Kingsmead fashion, our seniors embraced a longstanding tradition: they donated their school shoes to those in need. Seeing our students share this moment with their proud parents added an extra layer of emotion to the day, and it was a beautiful reminder that education is not just about academic achievements, but also about nurturing empathy and a sense of community. To the Class of 2023, as you embark on the next chapter of your lives, may you carry the lessons learned within these school walls with you.

Another day, another adventure. Our Grade 8 students embarked on a fantastic 5km hike at the picturesque Taroko Farm in Modderfontein. Nature’s classroom provided the perfect backdrop for a day filled with exploration, teamwork, and memories. We believe in the power of outdoor experiences to foster resilience, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the world around us.

The Grade 9 ‘Kingfisher’ module aims to mirror the advertising depth of the Loerie Awards. Our students collaborated across English, Computer Literacy, Music, Economic Management Sciences, and Visual Arts to create something extraordinary. The theme for this year’s Kingfisher module was to create an ad featuring inspiring quotes from our founder, DV Thompson. The winning team – Sienna Fry, Milli Seekins, Maxine Johnston, and Liyana Patel – captured DV Thompson’s message of ‘consideration of others’ with style. Well done to our fantastic Grade 9 students for crafting such stunning adverts!
