There was plenty to celebrate in March, with our students continuing to shine in various fields, showcasing their talent, dedication and courage.

We welcomed Kingsmead’s first official chess club and hosted special reading days and exciting science lessons, along with educational adventures and fantastic sports and academic victories. We also wished our community a joyful and blessed Easter holiday.

Our girls soared in their recent maths competition, where they teamed up with St Stithians Boys’ College and placed first amongst 26 other schools! Congratulations to Katherine Papadopoulos and Thando Mbatha in Grade 9 for their outstanding performance. Despite tough questions, their teamwork prevailed, and they showcased their determination and smarts.

Our first official Kingsmead Chess team kicked off the ‘Go for Chess’ League with a bang. Both Senior and Junior Primary teams secured two victories each, resulting in a draw overall. We are so proud of you all.

We had 40 students join our Service @ School – Make a Mac ‘n Cheese event. With expert guidance from Mamma P and Aunty Julia, they learned to cook and donated their delicious meals to Kids Haven. The afternoon was a hit, providing 50 – 60 children with hearty meals. A special thank you to everyone involved for making a difference!

Congratulations to all our swimmers for their talent and dedication in the inter-high swimming gala! Seeing you all shine brought us so much joy.

Our pre-schoolers had a blast with Sci-Bono Discovery Centre’s captivating experiments. The day was filled with laughter, exploration and hands-on learning that sparked curiosity and inspired our youngest learners. It was definitely a day to remember! Our Junior School reading picnic was pure magic! Picture this: sunshine, stories, and giggles as our little bookworms dove into their favourite tales. It was an unforgettable day all about fostering a love for reading and creating memories.

Grade 12 Life Sciences students explored the world of plant reproduction, delving into the intricacies of flowering plants. From dissecting lilies to marvelling at pollen grains, they gained an appreciation for nature’s beauty and a deeper understanding of the natural world.

The Kingsmead Adventure Club embarked on a journey exploring the B’Sorah Trails in the majestic Magaliesberg. With nature as their guide, they trekked through the forests and enjoyed the views, and then cooled off with a swim in the Skeerpoort River. In March we performed our major production, UBUNYE, celebrating South African spirit and 30 years of democracy. With captivating storytelling and electrifying music, it was an unforgettable celebration of our nation’s culture.

Well done to our riders who demonstrated their talents at Qualifier 1 and achieved great results! Hats off to Lily Yorke-Smith, Hannah Cooke, Katherine Papadopoulos, Emma Berry, Lucy Berry and Mila Hozack. Congratulations on your accomplishments!

Grade 10 Life Sciences students took a tasty approach to learning about mitosis, crafting models with an assortment of treats and cakes to further their understanding of cell division. “It was one of the best ways to learn about mitosis,” shared Mira Naidoo.

“Our class had a blast, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say it was a delicious and enjoyable experience.” Learning has never been this fun!

Well done to all our netball and hockey players who showcased their talent and sportsmanship at the Best of the West Festival! We are so proud of each and every one of you. From the early morning warm-ups to the final buzzer, your passion was evident in every play, every pass, and every goal. You all represented the team with grace.

Georgia Lenaerts secured 2nd place in the SARMC Regionals in the junior max class at Zwartkops Raceway. Despite narrowly missing out on the last heat victory, Georgia tied for 1st in points, securing a fantastic 2nd place overall on the podium. Congratulations, Georgia, on your incredible achievement!

The Grade 10 Geography class completed a sky-high project! Tasked with creating cloud models for the classroom, students were given free rein to let their creativity soar. From cumulus to cirrus, the classroom now boasts an installation of clouds adorning the ceiling of the geography department!

One of our recent Service Saturdays was a collaboration with the Green Team, De La Salle Holy Cross, and St David’s Marist Inanda. We joined forces with community organisations like CRA, Jozi Trails, Bubele Africa and ARMOUR for a morning of environmental action. Armed with gloves and plastic bags, our students tackled the banks and waterways of the Spruit at Delta Park, clearing away rubbish to protect our precious water resources.

What a season for our tennis teams! Our A team showed incredible resilience and skill at the annual inter-high tournament, facing tough opponents and putting on a stellar performance. Meanwhile, our B team dominated their section with a victory. Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic season!

Huge congratulations to Marguerite Cockeran for her outstanding achievement at the Central Gauteng Biathlon Interprovincial Championships! Marguerite secured 2nd place in the girls 0/15 category, earning her a spot to represent central Gauteng at the SA Biathlon Championships in Bloemfontein. We are so proud of you!

We are so proud of Amelia’s achievements at the Gauteng trials for JKA Karate! She poured her heart and soul into every move, and it’s no surprise she came out shining with a bronze medal! She’s been invited to represent Gauteng at the Nationals. Well done Amelia and we wish you all the best!

Our netball camp at Camp Discovery was a tremendous success! Our players honed their skills under the guidance of the new South African netball coach and talented players from NWU. But more than just drills and techniques, they formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Here’s to a season filled with success and teamwork!

Meet Mbali Nhlapho, the force behind a housekeeping revolution in South Africa. With a legion of followers seeking her advice on social media, Mbali redefines cleaning with each shared video. Recently, she led an inspiring workshop for our dedicated housekeeping team, imparting invaluable hacks for our school. Her infectious energy won over both staff and management. As a special treat, Mbali autographed copies of her book for each team member. Our students were thrilled to meet her and created fun videos together. Ms Palmer presented each team member with signed copies, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their incredible work on school grounds.

On 16 March,  the Grade 11 Dramatic Arts class from Kingsmead College stole the spotlight at St Stithians Girls’ College Phyzz Fest with their performance of “Vanishing Figures”. Inspired by the poignant story of Joshlin Smith, their physical theatre piece delved into the heartache of unexpected loss and separation from loved ones. We’re bursting with pride to announce that Jaydon Adams, Meagan Stewart, and Vuyokazi Nkonyeni took gold for Kingsmead College! This achievement is a testament to their talent, dedication, and the mentorship of our Dramatic Arts Department.

We’re thrilled to share the exciting news of Amari Africa’s outstanding success at the World Lyrical Dance Federation South African Qualifier! Competing in the under-8 age group, Amari wowed the audience with her technical prowess. Her talent at such a young age earned her the top spot in the category. Congratulations, Amari, on this incredible achievement! You inspire us all.
