August at Kingsmead College was a month of activity, featuring Women’s Month celebrations and many student accomplishments. Students took part in the Inter-house Arts Competition, earned top results in the Geography Olympiad, and competed in equestrian championships. The school also honoured a community member for 50 years of service and held events focused on the values of service and responsibility.
On 31 July, Kingsmead Arts students were treated to a spectacular performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Pieter Toerien Montecasino Teatro.
With vibrant visuals, dynamic vocals, and a high-energy cast, the show was a celebration of storytelling, music, and colour, a truly memorable theatrical experience!
We’re also incredibly proud of our very own Bethany Sinclaire, who attended the performance and wrote a published review featured on Theatre ZA. What an inspiring example of passion for the arts in action.

One Wellness Wednesday, we were reminded of the importance of rest, play, and connection, whether it’s curling up with a good book, dressing up just for fun, or simply spending time with the people who make us smile.

Our Grade 3 hockey players recently participated in the Roedean School South Africa Hockey Festival, showcasing true Kingsmead Courage on the field! We are super proud of each and every one of you. Well done, team.
Inspired by the fable The Crow and the Pitcher, our Grade 1s were challenged to design a working straw to drink water from a cup, using materials like tin foil, plastic, tape, pipe cleaners, and sticks!
Using the Habit of Mind: Thinking Flexibly, they first sketched their ideas, then built and tested their creations, and finally reflected on the process.
It was a hands-on, minds-on activity that encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance, all while having fun.
We are thrilled to announce that Hannah Cooke competed in the SA Youth Equestrian Championship and absolutely shone! She was awarded the Overall Victor Ludorum for Junior Elementary Dressage & Youth Champion for Junior Elementary Freestyle on her amazing horse, Delta. Hannah’s hard work and dedication have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments.

Happy Women’s Day!
In August, we celebrated the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women everywhere, and the incredible young women of Kingsmead College who inspire us daily.
From the classroom to the sports field, from creative pursuits to acts of service, our girls are making their mark. They are curious, courageous, and compassionate; girls today, leaders tomorrow.
Here’s to empowering our students to dream big, lead boldly, and shape a better world.

Our Senior Geography students participated in the SANGO Geography Olympiad, which tested their understanding and application of Geography to real-world current events.
We are proud to celebrate the achievements of:
- Gold Certificate – Lucy Davis (Grade 12), Amy Falcon (Grade 12), Rachael Drake (Grade 11)
- Silver Certificate – Amelia Cadman (Grade 10)
- Bronze Certificate – Annabelle Smith (Grade 12)
Well done to all our students for their hard work, curiosity, and commitment to excellence.
We are so proud of Sienna Hutchings, who has been showcased in the latest issue of ProAudio magazine for Women’s Month.
Sienna, a talented vocalist at School of Rock, Parktown North, continues to inspire with her passion, dedication, and incredible voice.
Honouring 50 years of grace and dedication.
Fifty years ago, Gillian Wilkinson joined the Kingsmead College community, a gentle presence whose strength, compassion, and dedication has touched generations of students and colleagues.
Like a rose planted with care, she has grown into every corner of our school, nurturing hearts and minds, and creating a sense of belonging that has stood the test of time.
We will be planting a Legacy Rose in the heart of our gardens, a living symbol of her extraordinary service and love for Kingsmead. More recently, both our Junior School and Senior School students honoured her in special assemblies, blessing her with gifts and filling the room with her favourite songs.
This Women’s Month, we honour her once more, for the remarkable woman she is, for the lives she has touched, and for the enduring example she sets for us all.
The Kingsmead Music Department was alive with rhythm and energy in Term 2, and the Senior School Marimba Festival was a true highlight.
Our six Kingsmead marimba bands lit up the stage with powerful and joy-filled performances that could be heard for miles. From the first beat to the last note, they made us proud with their talent, teamwork, and love for music.
A big shout-out to all the other schools that joined us and shared their incredible marimba magic. Your energy and talent made the festival unforgettable!
WITS Integrated Experience 2025
During term 2, our students had the incredible opportunity to take part in this two-day programme hosted by Wits University.
- Day 1: Students explored the vibrant Wits campus, guided by current Witsies, and were introduced to key faculties including Health Sciences, Built Environment, Geosciences, Commerce & Law, and Humanities. A central focus was on South Africa’s water crisis, setting the stage for critical thinking and collaboration.
- Day 2: Teams presented their innovative solutions to the crisis with creativity and confidence, engaging in Q&A sessions with peers. The experience concluded with a celebratory graduation in the iconic Great Hall, hoodies and all!
This inspiring experience not only deepened our students’ understanding of higher education but also ignited their passion to tackle real-world challenges with fresh ideas and determination.

Celebrating Courage this Women’s Month!
Kingsmead is proud of our students, Humayrah Ebrahim and Bethany Sinclaire, who participated in a recent Joburg Junior Council (JJC) event alongside our Director of Service, Ms Karen Landi.
Ms Landi shared her powerful story of courage and empowerment, inspiring the JJC representatives and their parents to find strength even in moments of fear. Her words were a reminder that resilience, compassion, and bravery are at the heart of true leadership.
This Women’s Month, we honour the women who lead with courage and inspire the next generation to step boldly into the future.
Throwback to one of Kingsmead’s favourite times of the year!
For just 4 days, our Senior School houses worked tirelessly to bring their best performances to the stage for the annual Inter-house Arts Competition.
This year, the spotlight shone on the 60s, 70s and 80s, and the girls lit up the stage with musical brilliance, creativity and flair.
Well done to all the houses for their incredible hard work and unforgettable shows, and a special congratulations to Timlin on taking home the win.
The Kingsmead Senior Tennis Team went off to Sun City for the annual tournament in August!
We wished our players the best of luck as they competed with school spirit, accompanied by Mr Muj Padayachy and Ms Carla Farina.

Throwback Thursday to a truly special day of service, inclusion, and joy!
In term 2 our Grade 9s and 10s welcomed our friends from San Salvador with open hearts, turning the Garth into a space filled with dancing, laughter, and kindness. Together, we created sensory toys with Dr Dee Blackie, shared stories, and ended the day with a beautiful picnic.
