Kingsmead saw some amazing achievements in April! We welcomed our new Head of the Kingsmead College Junior School, and celebrated Passover, Easter, and Freedom Day. Our girls also performed so well in their sporting events. Read more below.
We welcomed Brendan Quinn, our new Head of the Kingsmead College Junior School.
Brendan, with his extensive experience, leadership skills, and dedication to educational excellence, is exceptionally well-qualified to lead our Junior School. His track record speaks for itself—he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Under his leadership, we can expect a focus on both academic success and the holistic development of each student.
Brendan says of joining Kingsmead: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Kingsmead Junior School as Head. As much as there is the excitement that comes with the challenge of change, I do not underestimate the privilege to lead and the responsibility that comes with it at such a welcoming school where a deep-rooted sense of belonging is of fundamental importance.
I look forward to meeting the girls of Kingsmead and working together with their wonderful families, the incredible staff, and the broader Kingsmead community. Together I hope that we may build on the school’s successes and create an inspiring environment for every child to thrive.
In a new and courageous adventure, synonymous with Kingsmead, may we continue, in the words of Brene Brown, to recognise that “teachers are the guardians of spaces that allow students to breathe and be curious and explore the world and be who they are without suffocation. Students deserve one place where they can rumble with vulnerability and their hearts can exhale.”

Introducing the hockey and netball first teams for 2025! We know you will represent Kingsmead well, and do so with heart.
Kingsmead College was filled with both laughter and inspiration when we welcomed the amazing Khaya Dlanga! His discussion around his latest book “Life is Like That Sometimes” was captivating, insightful, and heartwarming.
Witnessing the spark ignite in our students was truly special. His engaging storytelling created a memorable experience we won’t soon forget.

A huge congratulations to our 1st Netball Team for their fantastic performance at the Annual St Andrew’s Netball Festival!
Finishing 11th out of 32 schools is an incredible achievement and a testament to the dedication and commitment of our coaches, managers, and players. Well done, team, and best of luck for the season ahead.

Our 1st Hockey Team showed incredible resilience at the Annual St Mary’s Hockey Festival! The competition was tough, and despite two narrow losses in the play-off stages, the team gave it their all, finishing 31st overall.
Now, the focus shifts to the league matches ahead—keep pushing, team, we’re behind you all the way.

As our Jewish community celebrated Passover in April, we hope this season of freedom, renewal, and reflection brought joy and peace to you and your loved ones.
Our Kingsmead students joined the interschool volunteering at De La Salle Holy Cross College, coming together with peers from other schools to make sandwiches for families in need.
A beautiful reminder of the power of community and giving back.
Making a difference, one meal at a time! Our Service @ School activity, Make mac and cheese, is back and better than ever. With the expert guidance of Mamma P and Aunty Julia, our students learned the art of making delicious, cheesy mac and cheese—donated to Kids Haven.
We took time to discuss food security and food insecurity, reflecting on how blessed we are to always have food on our tables. After a taste test, it was unanimous—these mac and cheese dishes were a hit. We hope they helped fill many little tummies with warmth and comfort.
Once our students master this dish, they were encouraged to keep the giving going by making and donating mac and cheese to Kids Haven. What a wonderful way to spread kindness and support our community.

The Kingsmead DIY Elective students put in the hard work, stripping away years of paint and glue to uncover the raw beauty of this old table. Now, with a fresh coat of paint, it’s been given a new lease on life!
This Easter, we rejoiced in the hope, love, and renewal that Christ’s resurrection brings. As our Junior and Senior School Choirs lifted their voices in worship, may we all be reminded of the power of faith and the gift of grace.
We hope this season filled your hearts with peace, joy, and the unwavering promise of new beginnings.
During the school holidays, our volunteers came together to pack our Easter Share What You Can donations. The Kingsmead community generously donated non-perishable food items, and the items were packed into grocery hampers and delivered to our partner organisations in time for Easter.
Our Senior School students have also been hard at work creating bunnies from knitted squares. The bunnies have been packed with Easter eggs and were delivered to the Maletsatsi Foundation, CHOC, Kids Haven and One Small Act of Kindness. Over the Easter weekend, we delivered the Easter bunnies to the children in the Neuropediatric ward at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
Through our Service@Home initiatives, toiletry packs and stationery packs were also delivered.
Special thanks to Ms Wilkinson, Ms N, volunteers from Germany and the UK, and our students for volunteering and ensuring that we were able to distribute these much-needed items for Easter.
