November was a particularly exciting month for our sports teams, who saw great achievements, and made us proud. We also continued to celebrate Kingsmead’s 91st birthday, and had a lot of fun in the sun. Read our November 2024 highlights below.
In November we wished a happy 91st Birthday to our beloved school! A place where dreams take flight and futures are shaped. Here’s to many more years of learning and growing together.

Congratulations to the 1st team and U14 water polo teams who participated in the St Stithian’s Invitational Stayers tournament and the Roedean U14 water polo tournament, respectively.
Both teams faced tough opposition throughout the tournaments, but performed well and obtained final placings of 13th for the 1st and 10th for the U14 teams. Well done to the teams and coaches on their performances and results!
The Grade 2 students had an inspiring visit to Siyakhana Gardens in November! They explored the gardens, got hands-on with some weeding, and enjoyed fresh mulberries straight from the trees. Learning about sustainable gardening and healthy eating, the girls left excited to grow their own veggies.

The 2024 Kingfisher Awards were a spectacular celebration of creativity for our Grade 9 students! This year, they showcased their innovative advertisements for Kingsmead’s Growth Curriculum, inspired by the Loerie Awards.
The Mackenzie was filled with excitement as students shared their hard work, with “oohs” and “ahhs” throughout the presentations. Tension mounted as the judges announced the winners, creating unforgettable moments of support and celebration.
A heartfelt thank you to our judges, Mike Mc Callum, Ahvãna Bhageloo, Lushca Brink, and Georgina van der Poel, as well as our Marketing department, teachers, and students for making this event special. The Kingfisher Awards will be a cherished memory for our Grade 9s.

Splashing into fun! Our Grade 1 to 3 students enjoyed an exciting gala under the sun, filled with laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition. A fantastic day of swimming and smiles.
Our Grades 4-7 students sharpened their math skills with Matific, an interactive online program that builds key concepts. They also competed in the annual Matific Olympiad!
Congratulations to our Grade 7 stars, Nina Fourie and Phoenix Shi, who ranked among the top achievers nationally in this year’s competition. Each received a R200 Takealot voucher from Matific for their outstanding performance. We’re so proud of you.

The Grade 7 students delighted everyone with their Cake and Candy Sale, which raised an impressive amount of money! From delicious cupcakes to colourful treats, the tables were bursting with creativity and flavour. Thanks to the hard work of our students, the support of our dedicated parents, and the enthusiasm of our school community.

Congratulations to the Grade 6/7 Water Polo Team who competed in the Durban Girls College Tournament, finishing an impressive 7th out of 13 schools! We are exceptionally proud of each of you for your strength and courage throughout the tournament. Your hard work and dedication truly shone through.
A Massive Congratulations to Lucy Davis, who has been selected to represent South Africa as part of the Women’s National Senior Water Polo Team! She will be competing at the Women’s Water Polo World Cup in Istanbul, Turkey, from 14–17 December.
This is an incredible achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder of Lucy. We wish her all the best as she takes on this exciting challenge and continues to make Kingsmead shine on the global stage. Let’s cheer her on.

Matric Class of 2024 – you did it! Congratulations on completing your final exams.
A big thank you to all the parents and staff who have nurtured and supported these remarkable individuals. Continuing a beautiful tradition, the matric students celebrated their final exam with hugs, smiles, and the collection of shoes and stationery to give back to others. A perfect end to this chapter.
