In February 2026 we experienced all kinds of love, which included sporting achievements, cultural celebrations, service activities, and Valentine’s Day, of course! We’re so proud of everyone who made the month memorable.

Our Kingsmead College Executive Team for 2026 are leading with heart, vision, a whole lot of school spirit, big ideas, bold leadership, and a shared commitment to our staff and students, every day.
With hearts full of intention and spirit, our Kingsmead students made a promise to themselves and to our school. Grounded in our 2026 theme of ZEAL, each promise was written down and stored in a jar.

Fifty years ago, Gillian Wilkinson, our Guardian of Culture and Ethos, arrived at Kingsmead, a gentle presence whose strength and compassion have touched countless lives.
Like a rose taking root, her care, wisdom and kindness have blossomed throughout our school, creating a sense of belonging that continues to grow.
In celebration of her legacy, we have planted a Legacy Rose in our gardens, a living symbol of her love, dedication and impact on Kingsmead.
This Choose Day, we were reminded that small actions can build something meaningful.
Our Kingsmead students restoring and renewing a bench in their DIY class is more than just a practical skill; it’s a lesson in care, creativity, and leaving things better than you found them.
On International Women in Science Day, we were proud to welcome three remarkable Kingsmead Alumnae back to inspire our Grade 4–7 students.
From cybersecurity and data protection to clinical psychology research and macroeconomic policy, their journeys demonstrate that science, in all its forms, shapes the world around us.
Tasmiyah Surtee (Class of 2019) shared how her studies in Politics and International Relations led her into the world of cyber warfare, banking app development, and data protection for global brands.
Sarah-Kate Havercroft (Class of 2019) spoke about her research on colour, music and attention, and her day-to-day life as a psychologist.
Siobhan Redford (Class of 1999) reflected on her path from Economics at UCT to her work in macroeconomic policy at the South African Reserve Bank and as a leading economist in the private sector.
What a powerful reminder to our girls: there is no single path into science; only curiosity, courage and commitment.
We are so grateful to these inspiring women for lighting the way for the next generation.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Mr. Quinn, our Junior School Head, surprised each girl with a little chocolate, a simple gesture that spoke volumes.
It was a beautiful reminder that leadership begins with heart, being present, being relatable, and truly seeing each child for the unique individual she is.
Moments like these are small in size, but big in impact, and they are part of what makes our school community so special.

After our original event was postponed due to the weather, our girls showed incredible resilience, returning across both days to give their all in the pool. From powerful swimming races, to fearless diving, to high-energy water polo, the house pride was unforgettable.

Our Senior School students rolled up their sleeves in the most heartwarming way – preparing mac and cheese for over 150 people in support of Kids Haven, who provides care, protection, education, and skills development for vulnerable children and families, creating pathways to dignity and hope.
The experience was made even more special by a visit from Mme Connie, who shared firsthand insights into the organisation’s work, and the real impact of our students’ efforts. There was plenty of laughter and joy as our girls served with open hearts.
We are proud to celebrate two members of our staff who have earned prestigious national appointments.
- Masibonge Namba (Kingsmead Water Polo Head Coach) on her selection as Assistant Coach of the South African Women’s Water Polo Team. The team will be competing at the World Aquatics World Cup in Gzira, Malta from 21–26 April 2026.
- Mr Mujahid Padayachy (Head of Hockey & Tennis) on his appointment as Manager of the South African Men’s Water Polo Team. The team will compete in the World Aquatics World Cup in Gzira, Malta from 7–13 April 2026. In addition, Mr Padayachy has also been appointed as a Southern Gauteng U16 Boys’ Hockey Coach.
Well done to both of our staff members for representing our school and South Africa on the international stage!
Our SCA Social was a special night in the presence of the Lord.
Cameron Haskins, our Head of SCA, shared with the girls and taught us how to pray, reminding us that prayer is simply talking to God with honesty and faith. We spent time worshipping together, and there was such a peaceful, joy-filled atmosphere as we lifted up His name. We also made bracelets together while chatting and connecting.
It was such a sweet reminder that community is one of God’s gifts. Thank you to everyone who came and made the night so meaningful.
Our Grade 0–3 girls were busy in DigiTech in February, learning all about algorithms in the most hands-on way!
By combining step-by-step thinking with a fun science experiment, they discovered how coding concepts can come to life beyond the screen.
As part of our Valentine’s focus, spreading love and kindness was discussed and demonstrated through the science experiment – red food colouring represented love and blue kindness- reminding the girls that small actions can make a big impact.
Our Grade 10–12 French students had the opportunity to attend a talk by French author Kidi Bebey, the writer of their prescribed set work, at St Mary’s School. Engaging directly with the author offered invaluable insight into her writing process, creative inspiration, and the novel’s themes.
Moments like these bring literature to life, deepening understanding, sparking curiosity, and inspiring a greater love for language and storytelling.
Our Grade 10 Tourism students visited The Monarch Hotel in Rosebank for an enriching industry experience.
During the visit, they explored the South African star grading system, gained insight into professional hospitality standards, and observed refined dining service in action. Engaging directly with industry professionals allowed them to deepen their understanding of service excellence and operational management within a luxury hotel environment.
The experience was both inspiring and practical, offering real-world exposure that brought their Tourism curriculum to life.
We are proud to announce that our 2025 production of Noises Off has been nominated for Best Production: Student Theatre at the 2026 Naledi Theatre Awards.
