Kingsmead College has an active and progressive Arts Department, which provides a variety of activities in which the girls can participate. We strive to find a balance between enjoyment and excellence.


We have a number of cultural activities in which to participate. These include

 

The Kingsmead College Music Department offers individual tuition in a wide variety of instruments. There is also a range of group music-making opportunities where students can experience music as a ‘team sport’. We believe that every student should have the chance to learn an instrument and be involved in music.

Individual instrumental tuition by highly qualified and experienced teachers (at parents’ cost):

Classical & Contemporary Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Double Bass, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Guitar (Acoustic, Electric and Bass), Drums, Orchestral Percussion, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Horn, Music Production, DJ classes and Voice.

Group Music:

There is no additional cost for Group Music, these are scheduled into the extra-curricular timetable and include; Orchestra, Jazz band, Rock band, Wind band, Choir, Chamber Choir, Wind band, String Ensemble, Marimba Bands.

Ample performance opportunities allow girls to perform regularly, e.g. annual SASMT Festival, National Eisteddfod, external examinations such as TCL, ABRSM and UNISA, competitions and the Johannesburg Youth Orchestras. All instrumental students are encouraged to participate in one of the group music activities.
