In November the Kingsmead girls embodied our value of service by giving back through our school shoe drive and our partnerships with Fight with Insight.
It gives us great pleasure to celebrate the talents of our learners – who challenge themselves and move forwards with courage and discipline. This November, we celebrated excellence in dancing, swimming and diving. We also enjoyed fun school activities like dress-up days, school visits and choir performances. Read our November 2022 highlights below.
The Kingsmead U13 Water Polo team competed in the St Stithians College tournament over the weekend of 24 November. This competition is extremely competitive, with schools from all around the country participating. Our Kingsmead squad performed admirably and finished fifth out of 14 schools in the event. Congratulations to all players.
What a special day it was for grade 000 – 0 parents when they watched their children perform at their year-end showcases. Seeing our students express themselves through music, art, and dance brought us so much joy.
It gives us great pleasure to announce that Mieke Costa and Ntuthuko Masetlwa have been selected as the Johannesburg Junior Council (JJC) 2023 representatives, after writing motivational letters and being interviewed. They attended their first meeting in October. We would like to wish them all the best for their year ahead on council!
Our Grade 1-3 students had a great time at their swimming gala as they showcased their swimming through some fun water activities we had planned. Well done to all of our talented swimmers!
After a season of hard work and unpredictable weather, our Junior School divers put on an admirable performance at Inter-Schools. The results were a testament to the grit and courage shown by our divers throughout the season. We had podium finishes for the following divers:
Grade 7A: Grace Hefer (3rd)
Grade 6A: Maya Rono (3rd)
Grade 5A: Milan Williams (3rd)
Grade 5B: Kylie Dugmore (1st) and Mikayla Rono (3rd)
The final standings at Inter Schools 2022:
Our Junior School swimmers took part in the annual Auckland Park Preparatory School Gala. Our swimmers participated with courage in a range of strokes and made us very proud! We witnessed fantastic efforts and performances in the pool from our young swimmers across the age groups. All in all, it was a very enjoyable morning of swimming and a very well done to all swimmers who took part. Thank you to all parents for your incredible support!

Our Grade 7 students had a great time dressing up as silly sevens for November; they got to wear anything but their uniforms and carry their books in anything but their school bags. It was also great to see some of our Senior Primary members join in the fun by dressing up as students.
Our 2023 Grade 00 and 000 students had a great time at their orientation. They got to meet their teachers, see their classrooms, and play with their peers. We can’t wait to welcome you in the new year!
Congratulations to our U13 Water Polo players for ending the year off on a high. Our players participated in the Durban Girls College Water Polo Tournament and placed 4th overall for the tournament. Congratulations to all players on a phenomenal season!

In the under 16 category, Meera’s awards include 3rd place in Contemporary Solo, Acrobatic Solo and Lyrical group formation (Palaces), 2nd place for Contemporary group formation (Porcelain) and 1st place for Lyrical group (The Lung) and she qualified for the finals.
Maia in the category under 17, achieved 3rd place in Acrobatic solo, Lyrical group formation (Palaces), 2nd place in Contemporary group formation (Porcelain) and 2nd place in her age group and overall age groups for Lyrical solos, and 1st place for Contemporary Solo. Maia also qualified for the finals and was awarded the Judges Choice award.
Their panel of judges consists of industry leaders and they offer scholarships and sponsorships with amazing opportunities (bursaries for Jozi Youth Dance Company, Joburg Ballet, World of Dance and many more). Dancers who make it through to the gala (like Meera and Maia) get the opportunity to learn a commissioned solo taught by an internationally acclaimed judge. Huge congratulations girls!
Our Grade 4 students went on their Service excursion to Fight with Insight, where they learned the value of giving back by making sandwiches for the children at InnerCity. They also learned about using boxing as a form of rehabilitation and had a great time trying it out.
After finishing their last exam paper, our matric students donated their school shoes to one of the charities that Kingsmead supports. Thank you, matrics for your generosity and kindness; we wish you the best of luck with your matric results. Continue to live your lives with courage!
