With the closure of schools in mid March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve enjoyed looking back at some recent highlights with an even greater appreciation than usual:
A wonderful evening of singing as the Senior School choir and Glee participated in the annual Singing Sistas event at St Mary’s School, Waverley.
The first half of this term closed with the Junior School inter-house gala on the 27th of February. It was a fabulous morning of great spirit, teamwork and of course swimming. Congratulations to Thanes for winning the gala and Knights for taking the Spirit Cup. Well done to each and every student and some brave teachers and parents for participating and giving their all.
Maxine Muller and Nina Stockenstrom have been selected to participate in the Deloitte’s Young Executive Programme. Deloitte offers different student programmes for dynamic and motivated school students. Maxine and Nina decided to apply for this incredible opportunity to gain some valuable insight into the life of finance, not necessarily just a CA. This is a prestigious programme which will give them the opportunity to experience the work environment, get detailed information on what is required for them to follow this choice of career, and even the possibility of an internship straight after university. They will be completing this programme towards the end of March, and we wish them the best of luck.
Congratulations to the Silver participants of The President’s Award for completing the Adventurous Journey at the Bateleur Nature Reserve. Participants were completely self-sufficient and had to carry all their gear, navigated the routes and prepared their own meals. Thank you to Mindscape Adventures for guiding us.
We are so proud of Christiane du Plooy and Fatma Ben Azouz who were finalists in the First African French Spelling Bee.
Inter-High is always a festival of excellent swimming, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Congratulations and thank you to all our swimmers and divers for giving it their all. The Kingsmead Community is so proud of you.
Our Junior School swimmers showed exceptional talent throughout the season, culminating in the final galas which took place on the 6th of March. We thank them for their hard work and dedication which has showed in their results.
The Junior School Choir did a beautiful rendition of ‘Into the Unknown’ at the Singing Sistas evening held at St Mary’s, Waverley on the 10th of March . Well done to all the students who participated.
Kingsmead’s Major Production, Sister Act, received standing ovations each night and the girls had such fun putting on the show. Thanks to everyone who came to watch.
The Arts & Music department are keeping their students busy with online lessons during lockdown.
Service at Kingsmead continues during this time of lockdown. The Service department has shared a number of opportunities for passive service. One of the Service@Home opportunities is making multiplication table flash cards for Isipho Primary School. Since we partner with them specifically for extra maths lessons, we thought this would be appropriate and helpful. These will be donated to the Grade 7s at Isipho on our return.
