Our final term has been off to a wonderful start! Here are a few highlights from the first few weeks back at Kingsmead College in September.
As is tradition, the Matric Music students performed their final exam pieces to an audience of family, friends and teachers on the night before school started, ahead of their final exam.
The Grade 3-7 students responded with wonderment and awe as they listened to Dr Adriana Marais telling us about the Mars One Project, for which she is an astronaut candidate. The theoretical physicist, technologist told us about how they will sustain life on Mars and how they are preparing for this immense journey. Her talk was literally out of this world!
The World Challenge expedition to Morocco was a challenging yet rewarding experience for The President’s Award participants. It included a project phase with volunteer work at a school in Tinejdad, a trekking phase hiking in the High Atlas Mountains and R&R in Essaouira. The team was responsible for their own budgeting, arrangements, logistics and planning.
We are thrilled to announce our Head Girl and Deputies for 2020. Congratulations to Georgina Beart – Head Girl; Gabrielle Gainer – Deputy Head: Discipline & Organisation; and Meghna Batohi – Deputy Head: Pastoral. We wish all our Kingsmead College Matric Leaders of 2020 all the best in their new positions.
The Old Kingsmeadean Association hosted their annual lunch. The day began with a service in the St Brigid’s Chapel followed by a tour of the school and then a stunning lunch under the trees. Well over 100 Kingsmead old girls attended and included special reunions of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 60 years!
We would like to Congratulate the Kingsmead Representative Council members for Term 3.
Each student from Grade 4 – 7 had the opportunity to nominate a person in their class to be their voice on the Kingsmead Representative Council, for the term. Each nomination included a motivation – an explanation as to why their nominated peer would fulfil the role effectively. The KRC students will be sharing their peers’ ideas regarding compliments and suggestions for making our school a great place to be each day.
Well done to our Water Polo girls in their First League match of the season.
U15A’s beat Randpark 27-2. The 1st team beat Randpark 10-4 and beat St Mary’s 10-2.
Kingsmead College celebrated our individual and combined Heritage in September with the focus and message being on how we all have a special place as South Africans. Thank you to all those groups and individuals that gave performances to make the assembly so incredible.
Growth Curriculum | Love Jozi
What a great day of movement, voice and improvisation in our journey to write and produce our personal stories of Jozi. Thank you to the amazing team from ZikkaZimba Productions.
Well done to our Grade 1-3 students who participated at the Fun Sports Morning. Your energy and your spirit was absolutely impeccable. We are so proud of all three houses.
