Kingsmead College had an exciting October! Here are a few highlights from the past month:
Kingsmead turned 86 on 10 October. We give great thanks to DV Thompson and her vision for this great school of ours.
The Junior School students and staff had a lovely picnic in celebration of the Kingsmead Birthday.
The audience at Kingsmead’s annual Speech evening were entertained with incredible music from the choir, Glee and orchestra. The guest speaker, Saray Khumalo, captivated us with her story and journey to the summit of Everest in May this year, a story of courage and purpose and an inspiration to the Matric students to achieve anything they set their minds to.
Kingsmead Senior School students participated in a slogan parade along the Kingsmead College boundary wall on Oxford Road. Strong voices, united and taking a stand on International Day of the Girl Child (11 October).
The parade was in collaboration with FEED and the Girl Rising Movement along with other organisations who aim to highlight the specific challenges women and girls face in terms of health and safety.
Goodwill Day was a celebration of Service and a day of engaging with our community partners. Thank you to the Kingsmead community for supporting and giving so generously to the various initiatives in support of our community partners.
On Saturday 19 October, 9 students and 2 staff participated in the annual Spruit Day. The team joined the clean-up near the Delta Café bridge. Despite the extreme heat, they managed to complete 3 community service hours and filled lots of bags with rubbish.
Our athletes, parents and staff had a fabulous evening of inter-house athletics on 16 October. The supporters had incredible spirit with the Grade 7’s leadership and our athletes all did us proud. Congratulations to Barons for winning the Spirit Cup and Knights for winning the athletics.
The Matric Class of 2019 began their final IEB Examinations on 23 October. We wish them Courage Always as their Kingsmead College journey comes to an end.
Our Senior School Athletes participated in the Senior School Inter-High Athletics. Well done to our students and the coaches.
Our Matric Valediction was an incredible celebration and fitting send off for the Class of 2019.
For the 2018 Kingfisher Advertising Awards, the Grade 9 students were tasked with creating an advertisement depicting one of the Kingsmead College Values. We are proud to announce that the advertisement created for the Kingsmead value of ‘Sharing’, made by Akinyi Lester, Radiyyah Dadabhai, Fatima Mohomed and Caitlin McBean, won the Grade 8 – 9 Curriculum Challenge category in the 2019 Apple Excellence in Education Awards. Well done to the team that created this award-winning advertisement!
Congratulations to the Water Polo 1st team on being placed 5th out of 20 schools, beating Durban Girls College 9-6 at the St Stithians Stayers Invitational Tournament.
Our U14 Water Polo team had a fantastic weekend playing at The Roedean U14 tournament and are through to the quarter finals. Well done team!
The Junior School celebrated the Evening of Wonderment and Awe where students and teachers showcased the amazing work that the students have been doing throughout the year. We also had a talk by Richard McKibbin speaking to the parents and students about Patterns in Nature. Well done to the students and teachers for putting together fantastic evenings of awesomeness.
