Charmaine Weir-Smith

Charmaine is an award-winning actress and director. Her breakout role was as Ophelia in “Hamlet” – Winner VitaAward for Best Supporting Actress. She played Daisy in “The Young Visitors” – VitaNomination for Best Actress, Agnes in “Agnes of God”, Em in “A Story of an African Farm”, Rachel in “An Unromantic Comedy”, Claudette in “2 4 The Price of 1” – Winner NalediAward for Best Actress in aComedyand for “Pregnant Pause” a Naledi Award Nomination for Best Actress. For six seasons, Charmaine played Shanell in Paul Slabolepszy’s “Suddenly the Storm” for which she was nominated for Naledi andFleur du Cap awards.

Most recently, Charmaine has performed in “Expelled” for How Now Brown Cow Productions at The Baxter Theatre and The Market Theatre, for which she won the Naledi Award for Best Actress.

Charmaine’s directing credits include: “Annie” for the Civic Theatre – Winner VitaAward Best Musical Theatre Production, “I love you, you’re perfect, now change” for Artscape and The Civic Theatre – Vita Nomination for Best Director, Athol Fugard’s “The Train Driver” for The Market Theatre – Winner Naledi Award for BestDirector, “Nothing But The Truth” for The Theatre on the Square, “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” for How Now Brown Cow Productions, The Theatre on the Square and The Baxter Theatre – Winner of 5Naledi Theatre Awards including Best Director and Best Production. Most recently, she has directed the acclaimed production “My Name is Lucy Barton” for How Now Brown Cow Productions which has toured extensively throughout SA.

Charmaine’s television and film career include lead roles in Isidingo, Binnelanders and Scandal and in the UK ITV’s production of “Wild at Heart” and Showmax’s “The Girl from St Agnes”.

Her film credits include Netflix’s “Jadotville” and “The Jakes Are Missing”.
